By donating stock to Healing the Culture, you can avoid paying capital gain tax on the appreciation, and still deduct the full fair market value of the stock at the time the gift was made.
The easiest way to make a gift of stock to Healing the Culture is to follow these simple instructions:
1) Instruct your broker to transfer your stock into Healing the Culture's Smith-Barney account. Our account number is 443-29556-17 510.
2) The transfer report from one stock broker to another does not carry the name of the giver, only the information of the stock itself. So, after you have given the above information to your own stock broker, you will need to call our account representative at Smith-Barney to give them the "heads up" that you are transferring stock to our account. Otherwise, no one will know that you were the one who gifted us. You can reach our account representative at (206) 628-4868. Tell them your name, the amount and the name of the stock that you are transferring to Healing the Culture, and give them our account number.
3) In order that we can acknowledge your gift promptly, please either send Healing the Culture a copy of your "gifting instructions," or call to let us know that the transfer has been made and the amount of stock that was gifted to our account.
