Pregnancy Resource Centers
Pregnancy centers (also called crisis pregnancy centers or pregnancy resource centers), are agencies staffed with caring individuals who want to help pregnant women during a very challenging time in their lives. They both educate and assist those who are pregnant. They offer accurate, complete information which is essential for the mom-to-be to make the best decision for herself and her baby. Most centers are supported by donations, but a few are also funded with grants.
All services are confidential and offered at no cost, and there is usually no wait to see a counselor. Many centers are medical clinics with a full range of free services. The most common service is a free pregnancy test for anyone experiencing pregnancy symptoms.
Most centers offer:
- Free Pregnancy Tests;
- Pregnancy Education;
- Physician and Clinic Referrals;
- Fetal Development Information;
- Pregnancy Options Counseling;
- Abortion Information and Alternatives;
- Post-Abortion Counseling or Support Groups;
- Counseling for Sex and Relationship Issues;
- Free Maternity Clothes;
- Baby Clothes, Supplies and Furniture;
- Educational Literature & Videos;
- Housing Referrals;
- Referrals for Childbirth and Parenting Classes;
- Referrals for Adoption Agencies;
- Referrals for Legal Advice;
- Peer Support & Encouragement;
- Spiritual Guidance.
Some centers are also medical clinics and may offer:
- Blood Test for Pregnancy;
- STD Testing;
- Prenatal Ultrasound;
- Prenatal Care;
- Official Letters for Public Assistance .
The staff are non-judgmental and most are volunteers who give of their time because they care. No woman should have to face the challenge of discovering she is pregnant alone.
