September 2008 Newsletter
Back to Main Newsletters PageAs I write this letter, the Democratic national convention is ongoing, and the Republican gathering is right around the corner. The public's attention has shifted from the pageantry of the Olympic Games to the power struggles of the Presidential contest.
Politics is on our minds too. Healing the Culture is a non-profit educational institute, so by law we don't get involved in campaigns - as a group. But as individuals we care deeply about the race for the White House, and also the countless state and local campaigns that have such a huge impact on the pro-life issue and the state of our culture.
Between now and Election Day, virtually all of the staff, volunteers, Board members and advisors of Healing the Culture will be acting in our individual capacities to support pro-life candidates and causes with our time, treasure, and talent.
We know most of you will be doing the same. It's not just a constitutional right; it's our solemn responsibility.
But perhaps what makes us different is what we do after the campaigning is finished. The day after the election - Wednesday, November 5 - most Americans will wake up, pick up the newspaper, and mull over the results.
Meanwhile, our team at Healing the Culture will be waking up early and preparing to welcome hundreds of pro-life leaders to Seattle for our 2008 Life Principles conference, November 6 - 8.
This is an intensive training conference that is designed to give pro-life leaders the tools they need to become more successful in their missions. We'll have leaders of pregnancy resource centers, organizational leaders, pro-life political activists, church leaders, educators, student leaders, and many others who can teach the Life Principles to a culture that desperately needs to hear this message.
We are expecting over 400 participants at the conference, and already have received registrations from locations as diverse as California, New Zealand, Kentucky, and Washington.
Why hold a pro-life conference the weekend after the election? Well, in part because we got a really good deal on the hotel! But more importantly, it's a reminder that our pro-life mission continues on - even after the election is over.
The important work of building a pro-life culture is not a seasonal sport. It's 365 days a year. It's crucial during election years, but it's no less important at other times.
Our 2008 Pro-Life Conference and Expo gives pro-life leaders the opportunity to learn the Life Principles curriculum developed by Fr. Robert Spitzer - a powerful tool for pro-life evangelization. It's an opportunity for attendees to "recharge their batteries," arm themselves with the latest, cutting-edge tools for pro-life education, and rededicate themselves to the rewarding work of evangelizing our culture.
Many pro-life leaders have vouched for the value of the cutting-edge training we provide:
"I have known Fr. Spitzer, Camille Pauley, and the work of Healing the Culture for years. This training program is one of the clearest and most powerful ways to help people understand how we got into the mess we call the culture of death, and what we need to do to get out of it."
-- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life
"Healing the Culture's educational curriculum is an incredibly powerful tool for changing the way people think. Their 'Life Principles' program underlines the intelligence and thoughtful approach of the pro-life movement."
-- Dr. Byron Calhoun, Past President, American Assoc. of Pro-Life Ob/Gyns
"If you want to advance your pro-life mission, then attending a Healing the Culture presentation is a must."
-- Dan Kennedy, CEO, Human Life of Washington
To help us provide a world-class pro-life educational experience, we have a powerful line-up of talented speakers. In addition to the core Life Principles training provided by Fr. Robert Spitzer and myself, our conference will include presentations by pro-life champion Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers; noted author Wesley Smith; medical ethics expert Dr. Sharon Quick; internationally acclaimed hospice nurse Eileen Geller, and many others.
This professional training for pro-life leaders is at the heart of our mission at Healing the Culture. If we're going to be serious about transforming our culture, we need to have a highly trained, educated, and polished group of people who can present a sophisticated pro-life message in a language our culture can understand.
Would you be able to financially support this important project?
Although conference attendees will pay registration fees to cover the cost of the hotel and meals, we need your help to provide each pro-life leader with educational materials. What they learn at the conference must not STAY at the conference. It's crucial that we equip them with resources and materials to bring back home with them for future study and evangelization.
As our special "thanks" for your generous contribution of any size, whether it's $10, $25, $50, $100, or more, we will list your name as a "Patron" in our Conference Booklet.
Please be as generous as possible to help us train hundreds of pro-life leaders from all over the country and around the world. And please consider attending the event! We would love to see you at our conference. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to the pro-life cause.
God bless,

Camille Pauley
President
