The statement above came from a student when he first heard about partial-birth abortion. In fact, partial-birth abortion occurred at least several thousand times every year in America... until now.
Last month, the pro-life movement won a huge victory when the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Congress' ban on partial-birth abortion. This heinous act of extreme violence against innocent, partially born infants is now OFFICIALLY ILLEGAL in the United States of America.
This marks the first time that a ban has ever been declared on any abortion procedure since Roe vs. Wade was decided in 1973; and pro-abortion zealots are fuming at this chip in their previously unfettered "right" to slaughter children.
Equally noteworthy is that Justice Anthony Kennedy, who has been notoriously pro-abortion in his past decisions, provided the key "swing vote," and even wrote the majority opinion. In it, he describes partial-birth abortion in graphic detail, and acknowledges that the procedure ends with "killing" the "unborn child."
We cannot understate the significance of this victory, and we thank God for this blessing. But, unbelievably, many people are still woefully uneducated about the plight of unborn children in this land. Let me share a personal example concerning the headline quotation above.
I teach public speaking at a local university. Last week we debated partial-birth abortion. But the exercise was stalled because none of my students had ever heard of partial-birth abortion and no one knew what it was. They were absolutely shocked when they learned the truth.
Ignorance is a great pro-abortion tool. While we have been celebrating our U.S. victory, Mexico City ignored the will of their people and legalized abortion in the first 12 weeks.
The devil never gives up. But then again, neither do we.
Our greatest weapon against the evil of abortion is prayer. Our second greatest weapon is education. And at Healing the Culture, education is our specialty.
We've spent years traveling all over the United States, training teachers, pastors, youth group leaders, and pro-life professionals how to speak convincingly on the issues.
This past March, we toured all over Canada doing the same thing. In four weeks, we trained nearly 1,500 Canadian pro-lifers, and spoke to almost a thousand teenagers. These are some of the comments we received in letters afterwards:
- You made us see the truth that was under our own noses all the time... That was a weekend never to be forgotten, whose lessons need to be put into practice.
- I learned a lot from your teachings. In fact you have provided me with a tool that I have been looking for, for many years.
- We were all teary eyed when we read the evaluation papers submitted by the attendees. They were all praises about the whole conference!
The most frequent demand we receive following our presentations is for more Life Principles resources. People swallow up our books, pamphlets, CDs, videos, DVDs, and other materials. The most popular items continue to be Father Spitzers book, Healing the Culture, and our audio presentations.
This spring and summer, we are dedicated to expanding our inventory of teaching materials. We will be overhauling our website, designing study guides for all our products, and producing brand new tools for Life Principles speakers to use all over the United States and Canada.
